TRANSFER PROGRAMS
Students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to earn a bachelor’s degree can complete their freshman- and sophomore-level coursework at De Anza. Each baccalaureate institution has a pattern of lower-division general education or breadth requirements and speci c major requirements that should be ful lled before transferring. De Anza o ers numerous lower-division courses. In addition, students may make up any high school grade or subject de ciencies that are required for entrance to universities. Please see a counselor or academic adviser for rules and restrictions.
Students should acquaint themselves with the current catalog of their transfer college or university for information about admissions quali cations and application procedures, as these vary by institution and are subject to change. It is recommended that students work closely with a counselor or academic adviser to identify appropriate coursework to ful ll lower-division general education and major requirements. With careful planning, students planning to transfer may also complete the graduation requirements for a De Anza Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree.
COURSE NUMBERING SYSTEM
Most De Anza courses are baccalaureate level and transferable to four-year institu- tions. Generally, courses at De Anza are numbered using the following guidelines:
1-199: De Anza A.A./A.S. degree applicable. (Check course listing for exceptions. Some courses may be noted as non-degree applicable.)
1-99: Transferable to campuses of the California State University
1-49: Transferable to campuses of the University of California. (See information
on UC transfer limitations for approved De Anza courses on page 122.)
All courses numbered 200 and above are non-degree applicable.
ere are exceptions to this numbering system. Consult the course listings in this catalog and schedule of classes to determine which De Anza courses 1-199 are not degree-applicable and which De Anza courses 50-99 have University of California transfer status pending.
Courses considered “transferable” may not necessarily meet speci c requirements of four-year institutions. Students should consult with a counselor or academic adviser to con rm transfer credits and to develop an educational plan for transfer. While students are strongly encouraged to work with a counselor or academic adviser, the nal responsibility for the selection of proper courses rests with the student.
COURSE IDENTIFICATION NUMBERING SYSTEM (C-ID)
The Course Identification Numbering System (C-ID) is a statewide numbering system independent from the course numbers assigned by local California community colleges. A C-ID number next to a course signals that participating California colleges and universities have determined that courses o ered by De Anza or another California community college (CCC) are comparable in content and scope to courses o ered on their own campuses, regardless of their unique titles or local course number. e C-ID designation can be used to identify comparable courses at di erent community colleges. For example, students who complete COMM 16 (C-ID COMM 130) at De Anza can be assured that the course will be accepted in lieu of a course bearing the C-ID COMM 130 designation at another community college.
However, students should always consult www.ASSIST.org for speci c infor- mation on C-ID course designations and to con rm how each college’s course will be accepted at a particular four-year college or university for transfer credit.
e C-ID numbering system is useful for students attending more than one community college and is applied to the transferable courses students need as preparation for transfer. Because these course requirements may change and
because courses may be modi ed and quali ed for or deleted from the C-ID database, students should always check with a counselor or academic adviser to determine how C-ID designated courses t into their educational plans for transfer.
