Budgeter Comments
- La Voz Editor in Chief Wylder Robison: La Voz is a student newspaper and essentially operate as a nonprofit. All the money we earn from ads goes right back into producing the paper. Unfortunately, we don’t always have the time to go up and down campus looking for advertisers—we’re reporters first, not a dedicated ad‑sales team. We also can’t charge students for subscriptions because the paper has to remain free for everyone on campus, which is part of the beauty of a student‑run publication. These are just some of the challenges we face as a student organization and as a student newspaper. It’s really important to keep journalism alive and to keep our paper going. We’ve been around since the 1960s, since the college was founded, and if we lose the ability to print, no one will really know what’s happening on campus. With journalism under attack across the country, it’s crucial that we get the funding we need to continue our work and do it well. Thank you.

Business Item 3
Town Hall
- Jayven: Our responsibility as the student government, we have lost that student outreach. We haven't really been reaching out to student needs, setting up surveys, or really asking about issues that everyone wants to solve. How do any of us know about the issues that we want to solve when none of us have gone to ask? We only have anecdotal experience from ourselves and our friends, but that's not the whole student population. We should find most of our ideas from the public, and I think having a town hall and actually reaching out to these students would be very beneficial, would bring back the student outreach that we used to have. In other years. We used to have town halls, but I think during COVID, that tradition was lost, and I want to bring it back. I want to start this tradition, so next year's Senate can do it as well. And I'd like to implement this specifically in the Student Rights and Equity or Events committee.
- Dali: Love the idea.
- Kyle: I think it’s a great idea on paper, but not many people will show up.
- Ethan: you proposing it now, which is a great way to set an example for the future senators.
- Blen: In support.
- Salvador: If we put on a townhall, and if only 10 people come, even if only those 10 people's voices are heard, we've made improvements. We can do something that assists with their concerns. That, in and of itself, would constitute an effective event for me. I feel like our largest concern would be the willingness and the initiative to really host these events where we, as elected officials, are actively listening to our constituents.
- Gabe: The inscentive for people to come to these events to provide feedback are high.
- Jacob Chen: It’s a good idea to have fun events such as lights out, in conjunction with serious events like town halls.
- Jayven: Would the SRE committee be okay with taking this work on?
- Chrissy: We can take it on.
- Alan: it would be great if we also show up in person outside of the townhall, like
tabling in the cafeteria.
Business Item 4
Time Block Scheduling
- Zander presented the time block schedule.
Business Item 5
2026-2027 DASG Budget – Fund 41 (DASG General Fund) - Second (2nd) Vote
- Dali motion to add $7,212 to the HEFAS student payroll account, seconded by Gabe
- Dali: The full amount for payroll is for the 7 student employees. Given the current political climate, we should not give half of seven student employees. Student employees hold significant positions at HEFAS like office coordinator, outreach director, member coordinator, marketing director, etc. These positions are all super useful and essential to HEFAS.
- Kyle: the reasoning behind why the Finance Committee chose $35,000 for the student payroll. It's not cutting two positions. I wouldn't look at the funding that way. they're still very well possible to hire all seven, it's just they would have to hire them at a reduced hours, or they can hire 6 at the full, 10 hours a week, 3 quarters a year. Looking at the 24-25 year, they were funded $25,000. of that, they only spent $14,700, so $11,000 went unspent, specifically $6,000 in student payroll. Additionally, from last year, they were increased from the student payroll from $21,000 to $34,700, so that is a $13,800 increase to hire 2 more student employees. Finance decided not to continue with the increase, because generally we should avoid large jumps in student payroll to prevent exponential increases from year to year allocations, and this is a large jump from $21,000 to $35,000.
- Kyle moves to end discussion, Sal seconds.
- Votes called: Add $7,212 to the HEFAS student payroll account

- Ethan: The bike program has a lot of demand and we are hoping to purchase more e-bikes for to meet that demand. In fall quarter, most students who applied are a little too far for mechanical bikes. 6-10 miles would best benefit from e-bikes instead of mechanical bikes. We had a student that was given an e-bike, but the bike started having issues and his commute was affecting his ability to get to school. We want to make sure we have that available for our students.
- Dali motions to end discussion, Ryan seconds, Kyle says nay.
