About Me

Dr. Mehmet Artun attended Bogazici University in Istanbul for his undergraduate studies completing the double major program to obtain a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and a BS degree in Physics. For his postgraduate studies, he worked on thermonuclear fusion at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory obtaining an MA and PhD in Astrophysical Sciences.

His PhD thesis is titled "Low-frequency Microinstabilities in Rotating Tokamak Plasmas" under the guidance of W.M. Tang.

After his PhD, Dr. Artun did his postdoctoral studies at UCLA's Physics Department, where he conducted research on instabilities in solar plasmas, working with Prof. S.C. Cowley.

In 1996, Dr. Artun moved to the financial industry, working in fixed income derivatives focusing on credit derivatives and holding senior management roles in global investment banks such as Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank.

In 2013, he founded a fintech startup called "EMBonds MTF", an all-to-all institutional bond trading platform regulated by the SEC and FCA providing level access to Emerging Markets financial institutions to the international clients. The startup was funded by VC firms was eventually sold to the interdealer broker BGC Partners.

After the exit, Dr. Artun has been advising and consulting startups and teaching.
