The meeting was called to order at 2:32, a quorum being present.
I. Approval of Agenda and Notes: The agenda was approved as distributed.
The notes of April 6th were approved as distributed with minor editing.
II. Needs and Confirmations: After discussion and a very close vote, Kulwant Singh was confirmed for service on the Instructional Planning and Budgeting Team (IPBT).

III. Plenary Resolution 4.01: Setziol presented the resolution and distributed a handout expressing concerns about the resolution. The resolution called for the establishment and use of a uniform state list of Advanced Placement (AP) scores which would receive credit at community colleges. Among multiple concerns were the fact that AP preparation courses are very unequally available to high school students and the congruence between the resolution and its intended result and the possibility of a statewide exit exam for community college students, something that has been vehemently opposed by academic senates across the state. It was the sense of the Senate to oppose the resolution.
IV. Plenary Resolution 9.02: Argyriou presented. The resolution called for allowing so called "content review" for establishing prerequisites as opposed to the statistical analysis of empirical data currently required. Given the history of prerequisites, it was the opinion of Argyriou and others that adopting content review was in essence going back to an era when prerequisites clearly discriminated arbitrarily against students with certain backgrounds. It was the sense of the Senate to oppose the resolution.
V. Plenary Resolution 9.03: Argyriou presented. The resolution called for a pilot program establishing prerequisites for basic skills classes. After a brief discussion informed by the discussion of 9.02, it was the sense of the Senate to oppose the resolution.
VI. Plenary Resolution 9.07: Argyriou presented. The resolution called for the collection and dissemination of data regarding commonly used assessment tests. At the beginning of the discussion there was more concern than support for the resolution but by the end of the discussion it was the sense of the Senate that Argyriou should vote on the basis of argumentation presented at the session.
VII. Plenary Resolution 10.01: Setziol presented. The resolution called for eliminating equivalency for the Associates degree for those disciplines with a minimum qualification of an Associate's degree plus six years of experience or a Bachelor's degree plus two years of experience. Setziol pointed out that the resolution would have the result of eliminating candidates who had six years of experience and nearly a Bachelor's degree from an institution not awarding Associate's degrees and who could easily be found to have more academic preparation than a candidate with an Associate's degree alone.
It was the sense of the Senate to oppose the resolution.
VIII. Plenary Resolution 10.02: Argyriou presented both the resolution and an amendment to it. The resolution called for eliminating eminence as a qualifying criterion for equivalency to the minimum qualifications for faculty. The amendment added the words "as the sole" to the expression "qualifying criterion". It was the sense of the Senate to support the amendment.
IX. Plenary Resolution 15.01: Argyriou presented. The resolution was in opposition to requiring either current or former high school students to attain a high school diploma at community colleges. It was the sense of the Senate to support the resolution.
X. Plenary Resolution 15.02: Argyriou presented. The resolution called for attenuated support for concurrent enrollment between high schools and community colleges. It was the sense of the Senate that the resolution was too vague on its own and that, at a minimum, Argyriou needs to find out about current policy and regulations regarding concurrent enrollment prior to voting based on argumentation during the plenary session.
XI. Good of the Order and Announcements: - Setziol encouraged Argyriou to declare intention to run for reelection as Senate President. Applause ensued but Argyriou was not moved to respond.
- Argyiou announced that she had notified discipline faculty as appropriate with information regarding proposed changes to disciplines and minimum qualifications to be voted on at the Spring Plenary.
