Department Mission
The biology department is known for its excellence in preparing students for transfer to four-year colleges and professional health care certification programs. The biology program also equips students to succeed in other programs at De Anza, such as Environmental Studies, Nursing and Health Technology.
By providing a learning environment that values critical thinking, curiosity, objectivity and respect for diversity, the Biology Department seeks to:
- Lead students in an understanding of life science concepts that will enable them to make informed decisions about global, cultural, social and environmental issues.
- Enable students to acquire skills and habits that allow for physical/mental wellness and personal responsibility
- Provide students through an appropriate array of biological courses opportunities to acquire a solid academic foundation, develop communication and expression skills and critical thinking skills upon which to become successful in their pursuit of further education, career goals and to become life-time learners.
About the Biology Department
Faculty offices are found in the Science Center 1 building (second floor) and the Kirsch Environmental Sciences Building (second floor).
