About EJUS
The Educational Justice for Undocumented Students (EJUS) committee advocates for campuswide efforts to support students, classified professionals, faculty, managers and family members who are undocumented. We aim to ensure that resources and services are inclusive of the undocumented community on and off campus.
The EJUS committee is composed of students, classified professionals, faculty members, managers and community members who are committed to creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive campus to empower all.
Our Goals
- Increase financial support for the undocumented community – such as, but not limited to, increasing the number of scholarships, academic opportunities, internships, fellowships, funding opportunities and on-campus work opportunities for undocumented students; increase the number of scholarships available to undocumented community affinity groups (i.e. undocuqueer, undocuBlack)
- Increase access to information and resources in a clear and supportive way that keeps students' needs as a priority and keeps their status confidential unless permitted by them
- Increase accessibility of tuition through the creation of inclusive local educational policies such as non-credit courses.
- Advocate for inclusive policies at the district, state, and federal levels that support undocumented students in holistic ways, including financial support for book vouchers, tuition, scholarships, housing, food, and physical and mental well-being
- Increase the formal recognition for this committee that includes the recognition of those who are a part of it.
- Conduct ongoing education, training and professional development that informs our campus community, especially those on the frontline, in meeting the needs of students and colleagues who are undocumented; wherever possible, this training should be incentivized.
- Clearly communicate protocols for when ICE or other government and law enforcement agencies are on our campus and interact with undocumented students or employees; practice drills and include professional development training; display our commitment as a college and include in official procedure documents and include campus enforcement employees in the process as well as acknowledging the experiences of Black and undocuBlack students
- Support HEFAS efforts, especially the annual HEFAS Summit, following the vision and leadership of HEFAS students and their organization; the support can be through outreach, logistics, financial resources and hands-on support
- Ensure that our campus provides mental health support and training specific to the needs of the undocumented experiences of our students by contracting professionals in the fields of mental health that hold an equity lens; support HEFAS efforts to continue to develop mental health resources and support
- Network with community organizations, resources and support movements and stand in solidarity especially in regards to immigration, human rights, and advocacy for higher education access for all; actively participate against xenophobic federal legislation and create resolutions for our shared governance and board of trustees to bring forward to stand for the rights of undocumented students and staff and their employees
