Veteran opportunities

California State Guard (CSG) volunteer service opportunity

For any veteran interested in continuing to serve and stay connected, the California State Guard (CSG) is a volunteer military organization that supports the State of California during emergencies and disaster response efforts. The CSG augments the National Guard during state missions and provides a way for veterans to continue serving without federal deployment requirements.

Members have the opportunity to wear the uniform and typically serve one weekend per month. It offers structure, camaraderie, leadership development and a renewed sense of mission while giving back to California communities. Contact: feltonderrick@fhda.edu

Per diem hospice veteran support role

An opportunity for veterans who may be interested in supporting fellow veterans enrolled in hospice care. Responsibilities include:

  • Presenting veterans with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of their service
  • Coordinating with the Veteran Liaison regarding potential VA benefits for service-connected injuries
  • Assisting with enrollment into the VA Health Care System
  • Providing information regarding VA burial benefits

Veterans are needed who could provide coverage in the following counties: Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco, Alameda and Contra Costa. This opportunity may be best suited for two or more veterans within each county, to help reduce travel time and share coverage responsibilities. The role offers flexible scheduling and collaboration with the interdisciplinary hospice team. Contact: feltonderrick@fhda.edu
