Issue 3, December 2025. Good luck on finals! Here is the Veterans Resource Center (VRC) winter break information and what to do now to prepare for winter quarter.

VRC announcements

Double-check your winter quarter schedule details

  • Be sure to note each class's location: online, hybrid or classroom number
  • Put important deadlines in your calendar now, such as drop deadlines and finals
  • Email veteransda@deanza.edu if you need help

VRC office winter break schedule

Take note of the special hours of operation.

Week of Dec. 15
  • Monday to Thursday: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with remote services 3 to 5 p.m.
  • Friday: closed, with remote services available
Dec. 22 and 23

Monday and Tuesday: closed, with remote services available

Dec. 24 to Jan. 2

Wednesday, Dec. 24, through Friday, Jan. 2: closed

Jan. 5

First day of winter quarter. Regular hours resume: Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday closed, with remote services available.

Drop-in math tutoring continues in the VRC

  • Wednesdays, 3 to 5 p.m.

Additional tutoring in other subjects and at other hours is offered through the Student Success Center (SSC), S34:

VRC counseling reminders

  • If you need to make a change to your educational plan, register first, and then make an appointment with the VRC counselor. Classes fill up quickly.
  • Are you on a waitlist? Learn how waitlists and add codes work.
  • Remember: deviating from your educational plan could affect your Veterans Affairs (VA) educational benefits. Always update your counselor and certifying official if you want to make changes.
  • Important: the last day to speak with a VRC counselor this quarter is Friday, Dec. 12. VRC counseling resumes Monday, Jan. 5.

Research study: call for participants

A National University research study is looking for 6 to 12 participants to explore the lived experiences of wives of U.S. male combat veterans and their access to supportive mental health services.

You may be eligible if you:

  • Speak and understand English proficiently
  • Live in an urban area in Northern California
  • Identify as female and as a wife
  • Are married to a U.S. male combat veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Have tried to access supportive mental health services
  • Are 24 to 64 years old

Participation includes:

  • 5 to 10 minutes: pre-screening questionnaire
  • 5 to 10 minutes: consent form
  • 30 to 60 minutes: recorded Zoom interview
  • 5 to 10 minutes: review your interview transcript by email
  • A $50 Visa gift card for completing all study requirements

The study has been approved by the Institutional Review Board of National University. The interview method involves a low risk of trauma, and the names and places you mention will be replaced with pseudonyms and non-identifying descriptions.
