VRC student reminders

Spring quarter registration: important dates

  • Plan to meet with your VRC counselor no later than the week of Feb. 9
  • Friday, Feb. 13 to Monday, Feb. 16: college closed for Presidents' Day holiday
  • Tuesday, Feb. 17: spring quarter registration starts
  • Submit your Request for Certification form as soon as you have finalized your spring schedule

Winter quarter deadlines

  • Friday, Feb. 27: last day to drop with a W grade
  • Remember: deviating from your educational plan could affect your Veterans Affairs (VA) educational benefits. Talk to your counselor and certifying official before making any changes.
  • Need help? Email veteransda@deanza.edu with your full name and campus-wide ID (CWID), and tell us how we can help.

VRC counseling updates

VRC counselor Lan Truong has transferred to Disability Support Services (DSS) as a full-time DSS counselor. Thank you, Lan, for your six years of dedicated service. You have helped countless veterans, dependents and military-affiliated students!

Veterans, dependents and military-affiliated students who are also DSS students can still meet with Lan. Not a DSS student yet? Don't wait: apply for DSS services now.

The VRC welcomes two new adjunct VRC counselors, Marianna Troy and Matthew Floro!

Student resources

  • Free school supplies at the VRC Student Lounge, provided by the Koret Foundation Grant
  • Free printing of school materials at the VRC front desk
  • Math and physics tutoring
    • Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. in the VRC Student Lounge
    • Additional tutoring (other subjects and hours) is offered through the Student Success Center (SSC), S34. See the Student Success Center schedule.
  • Basic Needs Hub (Baldwin Winery, next to Financial Aid): free groceries, toiletries, baby supplies, daily meals and more

February events

Feb. 11

VRC Open House: showcase of student success resources and lunch

  • Wednesday, starting at 11:30 a.m. in the VRC Student Lounge
  • Meet new VRC counselors Matt Floro and Marianna Troy, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Learn about more VRC resources, including math and physics tutoring, free school supplies, free printing of class materials, the food pantry and coffee bar, the student lounge and more
Feb. 18

The VRC hosts the Vet Center and the County Office of Veteran Services

  • The Vet Center, 10 a.m. to noon
  • Santa Clara County Office of Veteran Services, 1 to 3 p.m.
Feb. 20 and 21

Two days of free dental care

  • Give Special Kids a Smile on Friday, Feb. 20, is open to adults and children with intellectual, developmental or physical disabilities. The clinic is Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible and wheelchair friendly.
  • Give Veterans a Smile on Saturday, Feb. 21, is open to all U.S. armed forces veterans. Bring your DD214 as proof of eligibility.
  • 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days at La Clinica de La Raza, 1203 J St., Union City
  • All patients receive a screening, cleaning and any dental treatment that can be tolerated (fillings, extractions and more), plus an oral health kit. Additional services may be provided.

The Veteran Scholar Society (VSS)

VSS is a student-led community focused on helping military-connected students succeed academically, professionally and personally at De Anza College. VSS connects veterans to resources, mentorship, networking opportunities and a supportive peer community that understands the transition from military to college life.
